A group from Beacon Swimming Club travelled to Cranleigh on the 25th of last month for the Cranleigh “B” grade open meet.
Weeks of hard training paid off with Lily Morris starting off the haul of personal best times in the girl’s 9 yrs 50m butterfly (50.14secs) and 4 x 25m individual medley (1min 44.34), followed by Charlotte Down in the girls 9yrs 50m freestyle (42.68secs) and 4 x 25m individual medley (1min 50.03), Tim Gilbert in the boy’s 9yrs 50m freestyle (43.17 secs) and 50m backstroke (51.70 secs), Izzy Groenon in the girl’s 9yrs freestyle (43.19secs) and 50m backstroke (51.77 secs), Maisie-Jane Hand in the girls 9yrs 50m freestyle (47.16secs).
In the boys 10yrs category, Freddie Knott achieved a PB in the 50m freestyle (41.98 secs), along with Jospeh Wolf (43.67 secs) and Jamie Russell (44.28 secs) in the same event. In the 50m backstroke Freddie and Jamie did well again in times of 48.98 and 53.78 secs respectively.
Lee Fenner in the boy’s 11yrs group kept up the PB tally in the 100m freestyle recording a time of 1min 17.97 and 1min 38.74 in the 100m breaststroke. In the girl’s 12 yrs group Vicky Smith gained a time of 1min 19.87 in the 100m freestyle.
In the older age groups, Lee’s brother Adam Fenner PB’d in the 13yrs 100m freestyle (1min 10.50) and in the 4 x 25m individual medley (1min 22.13) and Rebecca Smith also doing well with times of 1min 24.63 in the 14yrs I.M event and 1min 34.54 in the 100m breaststroke.
In a separate event over at the K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley, Beacon Master’s swimmers took part in the annual Sussex Master’s competition. Dayna Else took gold in her age group for the 50m backstroke in a time of 35.64 secs and silver in the 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle events in 1min 18.46 and 31.88 secs respectively. She also gained top 10 placings in the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly.
