Beacon Swimming Club travelled to the K2 Centre in Crawley last Saturday to compete in the Alice Dauncey Memorial trophy gala. The club swam against teams from Shiverers, Brighton, 1066 (Hastings) and Crawley.
Beacon dominated the gala from the beginning with notable swims from Victoria Smith, winning the girls 12 yrs & under 50 metres freestyle, Lee Fenner in the equivalent event for the boys, Lawrence Berry in the boys 14 yrs & under 50m breaststroke, Izzy Boddy in the girls 15 yrs & over 50m freestyle, Stephanie Parsons in the girls 12 yrs & under 50m butterfly and Adam Fenner in the boys 14yrs & under 50m backstroke. In the team relay races, Beacon’s winning performances continued, taking maximum points in 10 of out the 17 events.
The evening finished off with the squadron relay team of Gabby Taylor, Callum Gray, Catriona Gray, Will Brown, Anna Wild, Harrison Stevens, Izzy Boddy and Tim Wood claiming victory in with a fingertip finish in the style of Micheal Phelps. The final points for Beacon were: 216, with Crawley in second place with 198. Club Captains Amy Allen and Tim Wood received the shield on behalf of the team.
