GALA REPORT FOR BEACON SWIMMING CLUB FOR 11TH JULY 2009

Beacon Swimming Club travelled to Eastbourne Sovereign Centre last weekend to compete against Eastbourne, Smiths, Hastings 1066, Lewes and Hailsham swimming clubs.

The team dominated the gala, finishing in first or second place in 38 out of the 54 events.  In the 10yrs & under category wins came from Thomas Malkin in the 50m backstroke, Marcus Goldsmith in the 4x25m individual medley and 50m butterfly, Edward Grimes in the 50m breaststroke, Hannah Shutt in the girls 4x25m individual medley  and 50m breaststroke and Chloe S in the 50m butterfly.  In the next age group up , ( 12yrs & under), there were wins for Lee Fenner in the  50m butterfly and 50m freestyle, Harrison Stevens in the 4x25m individual medley and 50m breaststroke. For the 14yrs & under age group, the winners were Thomas Wheeler in the 50m breaststroke and brother Ryan in the 50m backstroke. 

In the oldest age group, (16yrs & under), wins came from Izzy Boddy in the 50m butterfly and 4x25m individual medley, Rachael Stevens in the 50m backstroke, Amy Allen in the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle and Andrew Ducker also in the 50m breaststoke and 50m freestyle.

Good performances in the relay events, including wins in the final two mixed squadron races, ensured Beacon first place. The winner’s trophy was collected on behalf of the team by Captains Amy Allen and Tim Wood.
