Beacon Swimming Club’s Junior team travelled to the Dolphin Leisure Centre in Haywards Heath last Saturday to take part in the Junior Puffin Gala hosted by East Grinstead Swimming Club.
Competing against Redbridge & Reigate, East Grinstead, Tandridge and Olympus Marlins, Beacon off to a flying start with a win in the Boy’s breaststroke relay squadron in a time of 2mins.46.58secs and the Boy’s 10 & under medley relay.
With consistent placings in the top 3, notable wins by Gabbie Taylor in the Girls 10 & under 25m freestyle (15secs 35) and 25m backstroke (19secs 16) and Marcus Goldsmith in the Boy’s 25m butterfly (17secs 54) in the 9 years & under and 10 years & under categories, Callum Gray in the Boy’s 10 years & under 25m backstroke (19secs 31), Will Brown in the Boy’s 11 years & under 50m breaststroke (43secs 16) and Evan Draper in the Boy’s 12 years & under 50m freestyle (30secs.90).
Beacon continued to rack up the points with excellent performances in the relay events; in particular the second place in the Boy’s 12 years & under 4 x 25m Freestyle relay team, consisting of Evan Draper, Lee Fenner, Lawrence Berry and Harrison Stevens, who clocked a time of 58secs.97.
Overall victory was sealed with a win in the final event of the night, which was the 8 x 25m Boy’s freestyle squadron in a time of 2mins 06.75secs.
Junior captains Rachel Key and Callum Gray collected the shield on behalf of their team.
