SESSION 2 – DAY ONE
Saturday, 21st February
Rebecca Smith and Gabrielle Taylor got things off to a great start in the Girls Open 100m Freestyle - Rebecca recording a time of 1:09.98, and Gabrielle taking second place in the 10 Years Group with a time of 1:16.54.
Nine-years-olds, Tim Gilbert and Thomas Malkin’s performance, in the Boys 11Yrs/under 50m Backstroke was another highlight of the morning and provided evidence of the talent now coming through the ranks of Beacon’s Junior Squad. Thomas turned in an efficient Heat time of 45: 08 to come seventh, while Tim took thirteenth (46:99). As if that were not enough, Thomas then knocked nearly three seconds off his Heat time to grab fourth place in the Final (42.77).
In the 11 Yrs Age Group Will Brown also made his mark with some very consistent swimming. Will completed his Heat in a time of 37:11, before collecting the Bronze in the Final (37.37). Lee Fenner, just two seconds behind Will, took thirteenth in the Heat (39.15) and narrowly missed the Final.
Event 7 saw the turn of Beacon’s nine-year-old girls in the 100m Medley Team. Jo Chrismas, Helen Roome, Lily Morris and Charlotte Down did Beacon proud against strong competition to come fifth.
Senior Squad Boys Harrison Stevens and Thomas Wheeler were next on the blocks (400IM) as anticipation grew amongst the large contingent of parent supporters sweltering on the balcony. The boys did not disappoint; Harrison collecting the Bronze in 5:45.70 – 12 Yrs - and Thomas taking a fourth placing in 5:28.65 – 13 yrs.
SESSION 3 – DAY ONE
Saturday, 21st February
Harrison Stevens was first to get things underway again, after the break. Event 21 was the Boys Open 100m Butterfly. Harrison finished fourth in the 12Yrs Group Heat (1:17.42) and took fourth place in the Final.
Thomas Wheeler mirrored Harrison in the 13 Yrs Group, coming fifth in his Heat and fourth in the Final (1:10.52).
Lily Morris’ performance electrified the Beacon contingent up on the balcony. She romped home in 49.13 to qualify fastest for the Girls 9/10 Yrs 50m Breaststroke Final. Lily then went on to knock nearly another second off her time as she secured the Gold Medal in the Final (48.44).
Charlotte Down also swam extremely well in the same event and was unlucky not to qualify for the final – missing out by a fraction of a second to come ninth in the Heat and overall.
Gabrielle Taylor also built on her earlier showing, securing sixth place in the 10Yrs Final of this event (45:66). Earlier, Gabby had qualified for the Final in seventh place (46:37). In the 200IM Gabby also did well, achieving 11th place.
Beacon Captain, Tim Wood, took up the mantel in the Boys 12/Over 50m Backstroke, achieving thirteenth in the 16/Under age group (31:73).
Event 33 – Boys Open 200m Freestyle saw a large contingent of Beacon swimmers take to the water. Thomas Malkin secured seventh place in the 9Yrs Group; Callum Gray took tenth in the 10 Yrs Group; Will Brown took seventh in the 11 Yrs Group; Harrison Stevens took seventh, Evan Draper took ninth in the 12Yrs Group and Thomas Wheeler took ninth in the 13 Yrs Group
SESSION 4 – DAY TWO
Sunday, 22nd February
The day got off to a great start with a large contingency of Beacon Boys competing in the Open 100m Backstroke. In the 12Yrs Group, Evan Draper qualified fastest in 1:13.20. In the Final he knocked over two seconds off his qualifying time with a resounding swim to take the Gold 1:11.93. Harrison Stevens also swam well securing sixth place (1:16.59).
In the 13 Yrs Group, Ryan Wheeler and Thomas Wheeler put in good swims. Thomas: tenth place (1:11.70), Ryan: thirteenth (1:18.55).
A great swim from Tim Wood in the 15 Yrs Group claimed fifth place in the Heat (1:08. 66). In the Final, Tim went one step further: shaving a fraction of a second off his time (1:08.02) and ultimately taking fourth place.
Gabrielle Taylor and Lily Morris again turned in impressive swims, this time in the 50m Freestyle. Gabby just missed the Bronze (by a fingernail) taking fourth place in the 10 Yrs Group, and Lily came eleventh in the 9 Yrs Group. Gabrielle then went on to compete valiantly in the 400m Freestyle (16 lengths), recording a very respectable tenth place in 6:13.82.
The throng of parents, families and supporters from the Beacon Fan Club were delighted to see that two teams would be competing in the Mens 16 Yrs/Under Freestyle Team Event.
Team A comprised: Harrison Keith, Elliott Stevens, Andrew Ducker and Tim Wood.
Team B comprised: Evan Draper, Ryan Wheeler, Harrison Stevens, Thomas Wheeler
Both teams put in a spirited swim with the A-Team turning in a time of 1:52.49 (qualifying for the Final and coming eighth) and the B-Team 1:59.53 (eleventh)
SESSION 5- DAY TWO
Sunday, 22nd February
Will Brown and Lee Fenner got things underway in the Boys 9/11 Yrs 50m Butterfly. Lee finished in seventh, qualifying for a final, in which he was ultimately to take eighth place (38.07). William finished in thirteenth (11Yrs Group).
Tim Wood and Thomas Wheeler competed well in the Boys 12/Over 100m IM, achieving twenty third and twenty fourth respectively, in the 16Yrs/Under Category. Tim followed this up in the 50m Freestyle (29.02) and Harrison Keith achieved a very good time of 27:92 in the same event.
As the session developed, Gabrielle Taylor was, once again, making an impact in the water. Gabby completed the 100IM in 1:27.95 – taking seventh place.
The session culminated in good showings for the boys in the 200m Backstroke:
In their respective age groups, Callum Gray took seventh place, Will Brown took fourth, Harrison Stevens took sixth, Thomas Wheeler took ninth, Ryan Wheeler took eleventh.
