Andy Holden Memorial Shield Gala 2017

On Saturday we hosted our annual Shield Gala which proved to be a very exciting evening for all those involved. The idea of time capping events always makes it more exciting because if a swimmer swims faster than that time they lose team points [relays are not capped but are double points!] - Coaches love the speeding tickets, as it means individuals have swam faster than expected and they have managed to gain new PBs.

After 10 events Lewes & Eastbourne were ahead by 5 & 3 points respectively but by 20 events Beacon Blue had creep to the lead with only 2 points ahead of Lewes & 7 ahead of Eastbourne. The teams were battling all the way to the finish with fortunes changing throughout. The final squadron had the noise intensity that left everyone's ears ringing & probable broke several Health & Safety rules. Final scores were 1st Beacon Blue 250; 2nd Lewes SC 248; 3rd Eastbourne SC 219; 4th Beacon Yellow 192

A big thank you to our visiting teams Lewes SC & Eastbourne SC for attending this event, especially as it was so exciting right to the end.

Beacon swimmers managed to gain 38 individual PBs from 64 events.
