Andy Holden Shield Gala 2016

Last night saw Beacon team in action at our home gala at Crowborough against Lewes SC, Eastbourne SC & Hailsham SC. The local rivalry was soon evident by the good natured encouragement of the swimmers from their own teams.

Even the time capping of the gala [ie if a swimmer swims faster than the time posted on the programme they get a speeding ticket and the team receives no points] didn't stop the fantastic racing and friendly competitiveness between the teams, as swimmers still wanted to win their races. The noise from the team spirit was deafening especially during the final freestyle squadron. Mrs Holden, our special guest, was most impressed by the Beacon team's efforts and the gala atmosphere, she felt that you all did her husband's memory proud.

Our 29 swimmers from 32 individual swims achieved 20 PBs with 7 speeding tickets [Coaches are always happy to get those types of ticketing!] Throughout the gala the teams battle for position which was for ever changing though the evening.
The overall points were Beacon 223, Hailsham 202, Eastbourne 181, Lewes 179.

Well done to Leah S, Kathy N, Anna B, Annabel C, Joseph M, Lewis G, Jody O, Molly Mc, Robyn LR, Issy C, Oscar S, Isaac S, Alfie H, James E, Gemma C, Catherine L, Mia WW, Charlie R, Callum B, Tom W, Mckinley LR, Zoe R, Jo C, Charlie C, Lucy R, Harri I, Max I, James Mc & Matt Mc.

Thank you to all the Officials from our visiting clubs and all our own Officials & Volunteers who helped make it such a wonderful evening. Congratulation to Racheal who has completed her J1 qualification which was not easy during such excitement.
