Sunday, saw the final two sessions for this year’s Sussex County Development Meet at the Sovereign Centre at Eastbourne. The first session of the day was late in starting, due to a serious accident and subsequent closure of A27 causing a lot of swimmers, parents & technical officials to be delayed. But once a reasonable time had passed, which allowed the majority of participant’s to arrive at the centre, the session was underway.

Beacon had only a small number of swimmers taking part in these two remaining sessions but of the 9, they still managed to obtain 16 PB’s from 21 swims [1 DQ].  Seven of which were top 4th-8thplacing; Jo C 3rd, Gemma C 3rd & 2nd, Jess H 3rd, Billy C 2nd, Charlie R 1st & Arjun 2nd& 3rd. Congratulations to Katie N, Jody O & Tabitha R who achieved wonderful PBs.

Thank you to our poolside volunteers of Bethany C & Emma C who did sterling work keeping the County Officials, Team Coaches & managers hydrated during the event, & also, to the parents who did a great job in keep everyone in the team in order.

This is a wonderful meet which introduces Club Swimmers to the Sussex County swimming programme. Beacon with the small team of 16 swimmers, over the 2 days swam so well. Showing that although Beacon, maybe a smaller club compared to others in the county, it is still able to be just as competitive. The County’s decision to change the timing of the Development Meet from October/November to June/July seems to have made it popular again and its success this year should keep it in the County’s Swimming Calendar for the foreseeable future.

Next Sussex County Event is the Winter Short Course Championships. If you think you, or your child, may have qualified for this event, PLEASE let Mandi know of your interest as the Club is not particularly targeting the event.
