Swimming
As a Swimming Coach it is a constant struggle to maintain equilibrium between a constructive programme that achieves physical goals, and an underlying need to keep swimming interesting, motivating and (dare I say) even fun, for all participants. Fortunately, in my time at Beacon Swimming Club I have found that the second part of the equation takes care of itself through a fantastic atmosphere built on friendship, teamwork and the spirit of athletic competition.
As for the sport itself, (from an entirely biased, coaching view point,) there is no better exercise for promoting long term fitness, whilst the low impact reduces and almost negates any fear of long-term musculoskeletal damage. Neither is there any better sport for allowing individual achievement and attainment of personal goals whilst working as part of a team.
As for the club itself, (from an entirely biased, coaching view point,) all I can do is echo the Chairman's introduction where he says there is no better place to start a swimming career. As a competitive, yet family orientated club, we are committed to promoting swimming as a sport, through technique and dedication. As a result, we have in recent years produced more than one County Champion, but just as importantly we have produced many happy swimmers who will take this valuable life skill with them no matter what the rest of life throws their way.
