Synchro

Synchronised swimming is a growing sport in this country with the number of swimmers and clubs involved increasing nationally. However we are one of only two clubs running in Sussex at the moment.

Beacon swimmers meet on Wednesday evenings at Crowborough Leisure centre, where we have two sessions in the pool, from 6pm-7pm and 8pm-9pm, with a stretching session during the break
We have a very keen group of swimmers whose ages range from 18 down to 8 years. We work on routines usually involving up to 8 swimmers plus duets and solos, and have had displays involving the whole group.
Our novice team has been county champions on 2 occasions and we have also had figure and duet champions.

The main coach is Zoë Glasspool plus Jacqui Fitt, who helps when she is home from university. Also two of our older swimmers Stephanie Fitt and Zoë Tucker have recently passed their first coaching qualifications and are currently working very hard whilst Zoë G is on maternity leave. However, should there be anyone else interested in joining us on poolside we would give them all the help and encouragement needed to qualify as a poolside helper and to go on to taking coaching qualifications should they wish to.

There is a grading system involved with learning synchro, as there is in dance and gymnastics, at the moment we are following the recreational rather than competitive grades. However we are still eligible to take part in competitions. Should the club grow to a size where we can have more sessions and helpers we will look towards taking swimmers to external examinations to take the competitive ‘skills’ awards.

As members of the South East Regional ASA we are invited to take part in various coaching weekends and five of our older swimmers recently took part in a very successful choreography weekend. These are intense training weekends, which give swimmers an insight into what it takes to become a top swimmer.

This is a great sport, which enables swimmers to achieve overall fitness combining that with the creativity of dance.
Additionally swimmers quickly make new friends and learn how to work as a team.
Free taster sessions are available.
