Last Saturday, Beacon took part in this time capped interclub gala against Sevenoaks, Chislehurst Millenium, 1066, Edenbridge & Tonbridge clubs. It's always good to race teams outside of Sussex as well as gain experience in different environments & this proved to be an enjoyable event for the team. Some of our swimmers were new to the Gala format but were not daunted by the antiquated starting pistol. The team comprised of older campaigners & novices but all gave their best with very close racing which, sadly, the final results don't give a true reflection. The noise from the swimmers & spectators during the final squadron was deafening as the teams battled to the finish.

There were from 32 individual swims, 15 PBs obtained. Due to the nature of the Sevenoaks pool & the necessity of take-overs in the shallow end to be in the water for all relays [ie. Swimmers must not loose hand contact with the wall until the incoming swimmer has touched] was definitely a major hindrance on the team's overall result, with 12 relay DQ 4 individual DQ. 4 swimmers got speeding tickets which mean no points but coaches are always pleased that a swimmer swims faster than they expected.

 The overall scores were 1st Sevenoaks 217, 2nd Edenbridge 166, 3rd Chislehurst 156, 4th Tonbridge 139, 5th Beacon 121.5 & 6th 1066 103.5

Last year Beacon came 6th so we're moving in the right direction.

Well Done to everyone who swam.
