Weekly Training
Training hours are set for each squad and swimmers are able to choose which hours they train. There is no requirement for a minimum number of training hours for Prep, Junior Development, Senior Development, Senior Fitness or Masters’ squads. For the Performance squad swimmers, there are minimum hours training attendance in order to meet criteria. Details of training hours are on the website under documents.
Holiday Training
Training still takes place during school holidays but there is a separate holiday training timetable. This can be found on the website under documents.
Long Course (50m) Training
In addition to the usual weekly training schedule, during the season the Club also runs regular 50m training at K2. These sessions are by invitation only and provide swimmers of all ages and ability with the opportunity to experience a different type of training. For our more competitive swimmers it is a vital part of their development and enables them to gain experience before competing in long course events.
Easter/Summer Training Camp
In addition to the usual holiday training schedule, during the summer holidays the club put on a week long summer training camp. It is held at Mayfield school pool and run by our coaches. Each day a different stroke is concentrated on (front crawl, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and IM), swimmers are usually given the chance to swim two sets during the day with some land based training in between. In the afternoon there are also team-building games.
Training sessions
Our coaches meet regularly to discuss the numbers attending each session and the progress being made by each squad. A number of sessions are busier than others however as long as the swimmers maintain correct spacing we can have up to 6 swimmers in each lane. Where necessary if sessions are continuously busy we will add a second coach to that session.
Coaches will run sessions designed to improve technique and stamina and different coaches use different training methods. Our coaches are not dedicated to any particular squad and therefore the more sessions a swimmer attends a week the greater the variety of coaches they are likely to have training them.
